2022 SA Wine Industry Snapshot

The Wine Industry in South Australia continues to be challenged by significant and complex headwinds.

Bentleys SA and the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) have released the 2022 South Australian Wine Industry Snapshot, a survey of 120 of the State’s wine businesses identifying that business confidence is at its lowest point in the six years of Snapshot reporting.

Oversupply and staffing were identified as key negative impacts across the industry, with these being compounded by issues including rising costs of business and inflation, and an oversaturated domestic market all contributing factors to the decline in business confidence. Marketing, business strategy, and education and training were identified as areas for businesses to invest in with a key focus on e-commerce with online consumer demand standing out as a positive this year.

The industry needs careful planning, monitoring and understanding. Tools such as strategic planning, Business Impact Analysis (BIA’s) and 3 way forecasts (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow) will be the keys to success.
