Mike Derbyshire

With more than 30 years of experience in audit and assurance, Mike Derbyshire helps corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations gain clarity and confidence in their financial reporting.

Mike specialises in external audit and assurance engagements, including the audit of self‑managed superannuation funds (SMSFs). He has a strong focus on maximising audit quality and efficiency through effective technology use while maintaining rigorous professional standards.

Prior to joining Bentleys Tasmania in July 2013, following the merger with Kaizen Business Services Group, Mike was a Director of Purcell Accounting Inc. in Cape Town for six years. Earlier in his career, he worked in corporate audit at Ernst & Young and held senior financial controller roles within a large retail franchise group. In a previous career, Mike trained and worked as a pharmacist before transitioning into the accounting profession.

Mike brings strong governance experience, serving on the boards of community organisations and chairing audit panels for three Tasmanian councils. His independent advice helps these groups stay accountable and focused on their goals.

At Bentleys Tasmania, Mike mentors the next generation of CA and CPA candidates and helps shape our technical direction as part of the Bentleys National Audit Technical Advisory Committee.
