Gemma Cook is an Associate Director in the Business Services division of Bentleys. With over 10 years of experience in the accounting profession, Gemma provides business and taxation advice to private and family owned business, small to medium enterprises (SME’s) and high net wealth individuals.

Gemma has worked with a diverse range of clients across a variety of industries, including primary production, medical, legal, hospitality and retail industries. She has worked with a mix of clients and their stakeholders, including family owned industry participants operating in the sugar cane, banana, beef cattle, small crops, sheep and wheat industries.
 
Having grown up in a regional town in Far North Queensland, Gemma understands the complexities specific to family run rural business, and has experience assisting families with succession and estate planning matters, structuring property acquisitions, applying for and reporting on government grants, and reporting to financiers.
 
Gemma received the national top mark in the final subject of her Chartered Accountants program, and received merits for two other subjects.
 
Outside of Bentleys, Gemma also acts as the Treasurer for Bravehearts.
 
Major Projects:

  • Providing taxation advice in relation to the sale of a large rural property from a deceased estate, including mediation with the family to reach a mutually agreeable decision in relation to the distribution of funds.
  • Preparation of three-way cash flow forecasts and liaising with bankers to successfully secure additional finance for a national wholesaler after their initial attempts were unsuccessful.
  • Provision of restructuring advice to a panel beating business to achieve asset protection and succession planning objectives whilst avoiding negative stamp duty and Capital Gains Tax consequences
  • Structuring the management buy-out of an electrical retail store
  • Assisting UK based companies in establishing branches and subsidiaries in Australia, and facilitating all necessary registrations and employment matters
