John is a Director in Bentleys Corporate Recovery Sydney.  John’s professional career spans over 30 years. John joined Bentleys following a role with a ‘Big 4’ firm where he was a partner in the transaction advisory services – corporate restructuring division and leader of the firm’s national corporate restructuring practice.
 
Throughout his career, John has focused on delivering optimum results for his clients by providing quality service in the fields of restructuring, receivership, administration, litigation support and investigation. This has been best demonstrated in a number of complex assignments, including conducting an investigation of HIH and being appointed liquidator of LibertyOne Limited. 
 
John possesses keen insight into a number of key industries including property; construction and heavy engineering; financial services, particularly insurance and reinsurance; tourism and hospitality; and technology, communications and entertainment.  His clients have included most of the major banks and many large and small legal firms of and government departments.
 
The nature of John’s work extends to tracing and recovering assets, determining the solvency/insolvency of organisations, and providing reports to assist in dispute resolution, often in situations where resources and funding are constrained.
 
John has also delivered presentations regarding restructuring issues at a number of international conferences including INSOL (London, Cape Town, Sydney) and Mealey’s (Arizona, USA).

 
Major Projects:
 
  • Liquidator of LibertyOne Limited, the first internet and multi-media company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange
  • Liquidator of New Cap Reinsurance Corporation, the first failure in the general collapse of the reinsurance industry in Australia. The liquidation involved major cross-jurisdictional issues and focused the spotlight on particular aspects of Australian Corporations and Insurance Law which impact on insurance and reinsurance insolvencies in Australia
  • Project Drogba - an investigative accountant's report of a national building services company with in excess of 200 construction projects and 4,000 service and maintenance contracts. The client was a major Australian bank
  • Project Essien - an investigative accountant's report of a national building services company with 185 construction projects and 2,000 service and maintenance contracts. The client was a major Australian bank
  • Ray Fitzpatrick Pty Limited - John was appointed Liquidator of Ray Fitzpatrick Pty Limited.  Ray Fitzpatrick was a major landowner in the Eastern Creek region with two complex properties with a combined value in excess of $160 million 
  • Budbox – John was appointed Receiver of Budbox Pty Limited.  Budbox owned a major tenanted industrial property in Villawood, NSW
